As a self-taught artist, Brian did not begin to focus on art seriously until the age of 25, although he was in love with drawing and creating from a very young age. Brian’s direction in art was formed more from his drawing style and personal creativity than from teachers or art history. His unique style is very spontaneous. He rarely sketches out his paintings, preferring to draw inspiration from the moment. He focuses on manipulating perspectives with line and color choices, and creating unusual balances by using a diverse set of unique, but similar patterns. He has always been inspired by the complex patterns in nature, architecture, biology, and culture, all of which add whimsical elements to his work.

Brian spent the last five years living in the coastal jungles of southern Costa Rica, diving deeply into his art, learning a new culture, and learning more about himself and his place in the natural world. Having returned to the United States in 2021, his life-changing experience in Costa Rica has set him up for a new chapter of re-engaging in the art world with new energy, inspiration, and ideas for 2021.

Brian currently resides in North Carolina with his lovely wife and eight rescue animals.
